Charity Contributions (updated)
The Cape Cod Corvette
Club’s Winter Traditions Continue
During the summer months,
the Cape Cod Corvette Club members are busy cruising in their Corvettes
and raising money for their many charity and community programs.
Those efforts continue
when the majority of the Corvettes are put away for the winter months.
Following a 10 year tradition of giving to those in need, the club
membership donated $2335.24 to the “Cape Cod Times Needy Fund” and
continued the drop off of toys for children on the Cape.
The Family Pantry located
in Harwich which serves the entire Cape received 175 toys, 16 gift cards,
and a generous check for $273.00 on Sunday, December 7th. These were the
first gifts that the Family Pantry had received thus far this holiday
season when times are the most difficult of all.
Twelve club members met
with Pete Moynagh, a Board Member of the Family Pantry, that day and
delivered the items to his great surprise. During the winter months of 2009, club members will be collecting non-perishable food items in an effort called “From Our Pantry to Your Pantry” and clothing as well.
We are a dynamic group. We hold various functions throughout the year. Obviously in the winter months most of the members leave their prized possessions in their garages (if they have one) and attend by driving something else. Some of the events are for members only, while many are open to non members as well. Those that are for members-only include our weekend trip to wherever (this year's will be to New Hampshire), summer cookout meetings and our annual holiday party. Those that are open to everybody include our mystery cruises (usually the 4th Thursday of the month from May- Sept. This is about an hour cruise on the Cape to a dinner somewhere), our summer cruise nights (Wednesdays- June - Sept various locations - this is more of gathering rather than " driving around"), and our "Corvettes on Cape Cod Weekend" which is planned for Sept 20. We like to give rather than receive" and many of our functions take in a few $$ (raffles, etc) most of which goes back out to our local community in the form of charity. From food and clothing donations to local pantries and shelters, to $$ to other needy groups, a defibulator to a local Fire Department: we are all very proud that we can give something back to our local community. If you have a Corvette of any vintage and would like to join in on an event, do so. It likely will be a fun time. And should you join the club, you will be able to participate in a whole lot more events and be part of a dynamic group of car lovers.
